Miniature Pinscher
Height: 10 to 12 inches at the shoulder
Weight: 8 to 12 pounds
Best Attributes: Lively and alert
Life Expectancy:16 to 20 years
Grooming Requirements: Minimal due to its short coat, but they will still benefit from a daily grooming with a slicker brush to help stimulate a healthy coat. Unless its nails are used often. They should be trimmed with clippers.
Characteristics: This ancient breed descended from the traditional native German terriers. The breed became standardized in 1895.
The Pinscher adapts easily to life in a home but must receive adequate exercise; frequent walks or romps in a garden are essential. while the Pinscher's short coat needs little care, it provides poor protection from the elements in cold climates.
One of the Miniature's most attractive features is a characteristic high-stepping "hackney" gait. evidence that the Italian Greyhound may have had a hand in the Pinscher's development. Despite its small size, it is a fine watch-dog and ratter: alert and clever, it is quick to warn of intruders and will courageously attack vermin nearly as large as itself.
The Miniature's somewhat delicate appearance masks surprisingly vigorous health and resistance to illness. It is easily trained and requires only simple grooming. Lively and self-assured, the little dog makes a devoted pet.
