Grooming Requirements:
This dog should not be bathes more than two or three times per year. Use Phytosoin Dry Cleaning solution to clean the coat at other times. A daily brushing with a good slicker brush is essential to prevent matting of this dog's long hair.
Characteristics
Although small in stature, the Lhasa Apso is a hardy dog with a fine sense of hearing. it makes an excellent watchdog. While the name "Lhasa" probably refers to the capital of Tibet, "Apso" may mean "goatlike" - referring to the long, coarse coat, which is tits most distinctive feature. hair falls well over its eyes, and it has a prominent beard and mustache.
The Lhasa Apso is a small, clever dog with an impressive coat, and eyes hidden behind a cascade of hair. for centuries the breed was almost unknown outside Tibet, where it was bred by Lhasa's lamas and nobles.
Lhasa apsos can endure high altitudes and are reputed to sense avalanches before they occur.
Lhasa apsos have particularly acute hearing, are hardy, easily trained, responsive to kindness, obedient to those they trust, intelligent, and alert. They cannot bear to be left alone and they abhor changes in routine. The Lhasa is also an attentive mother.
