The American Cocker Spaniel is the smallest member of the Sporting Group. Often referred to as the Cocker, he has a sturdy compact body and a cleanly chiseled and refined head, with the overall dog in complete balance and of the ideal size. The Cocker is capable of considerable speed and endurance. Most important, he must be free and merry, sound well balanced throughout, and show a love of working. The Cocker must be equable in temperament with no suggestion of timidity.
There are three basic Cocker Spaniel colors: Black, and any Solid Color Other than Black (ASCOB), and Particolor.
The Cocker has achieved great popularity both at the dog shows and as loving family pets. Energetic, readily trainable, intelligent, affectionate and as their constantly wagging tail tells us, quite merry and glad to see you. His exercise needs are moderate, but his coat needs frequent brushing, and his eyes and ears should be checked regularly.
